How Does It Work?

This test is administered at the point of care, near-patient setting. ie, clinic, surgery, designated administration office in the workplace, aesthetic or dental clinic, home or designated test space.

The Excalibur Rapid Covid test uses a single nostril swab test (nasopharyngeal swab) to collect samples from the nasal cavity.

Once the sample is collected, it is processed using a fluid called extraction buffer. The sample is placed in an extraction tube with approx 4ml of buffer . After just 1 minute, the specimen is placed on an antigen test card, An accurate positive test result can be read from the card in a little as 2 mins. A complete test requires 15 mins to reveal if individual tests positive or negative for SARS-CoV-2 the virus that causes COVID-19.

Preparation

1) Clear and clean a flat surface
2) Get kit ready
3) Timer at hand
4) Tissues – blow nose
5) Wash hands

Unpack The Kit

Add 8 Drops Of Buffer Into The Tube

Tilt Head, Insert Swab Into Nostril Along Floor Of Nose In Backward Direction. When You Have Reached Nasopharynx, You Will Feel Resistance. Rotate 4-5 Times And Remove.

Place Swab Into Buffer Tube, Rotate Swab Several Times To Absorb Buffer. Leave To Stand For 1 Minute.

Remove Swab By Squeezing TUBE Firmly As Swab Is Withdrawn. Place Cap Firmly On To The Tube. Avoid Touching Top.

Squeeze 3 Drops From The Tube Into The Bottom Well Marked S
Start Timer: 15-20 Minutes

When Timer Alarm Sounds, Read Result

Record/Report As Per Local Requirements

RESULTS

Interpretation of Results

Positive
If TWO COLOURED BANDS appear within 15-20 minutes with one coloured band in the Control Zone (C) and another in the Test Zone (T) the result is POSITIVE. No matter how faint the band is in the Test Zone (T), the result should be considered as Positive.
Negative

If ONE COLOURED BAND appears in the Control Zone (C) and no coloured band appears in the Test Zone (T) within 15-20 minutes, the test result is NEGATIVE. A negative result DOES NOT exclude SARS-CoV-2 Viral Infection and should be confirmed by Molecular Diagnostic method if COVID-19 disease is still suspected.

Invalid Result

If there is NO COLOURED BAND in the Control Zone (C) within 15-20 minutes, repeat the Rapid Coronavirus Test.
